Athletes are invisible on generic social media. Sports content gets buried under everything else on Instagram and TikTok. Discovery is hit or miss — reels might get you noticed but they don't get you hired. Communities are fragmented across WhatsApp groups and Discord servers. And there's no LinkedIn for athletes — miss the recruiting window at 18 and your career is over before it starts.

Chalk combines three pillars into one dedicated platform. Professional profiles give athletes a real identity — stats, rankings, achievements — designed for recruiter discovery. Sport-specific communities with posts, threaded comments, upvotes, and weekly challenges keep athletes engaged and surfacing their best content. Matches and events let athletes host and join games, book courts, and find pickup sessions — all in one place. Community and events drive retention. Recruiting drives revenue.

NIL rule changes mean college athletes can legally monetize for the first time — a new market created overnight. Athletes are digital-first but recruiting is still offline with generic, transactional tools. Vertical platforms consistently win: Behance beat Instagram for designers, LinkedIn beat Facebook for professionals. Sports tech saw $12.5B in deals in 2025 alone. The timing is right for a dedicated athlete platform.

Build community first, recruiting comes naturally. Phase 1: Seed communities by partnering with college clubs and local athletic networks. Phase 2: Drive content through sponsored tournaments, match recordings, and challenge leaderboards. Phase 3: Grow the network via referral loops and cross-sport expansion. Phase 4: Attract recruiters with organic coach interest and premium monetization. Badminton first, then tennis, then basketball.

Following the LinkedIn playbook — validate first, monetize after PMF. Phase I is free: community building, match hosting, profile creation. Phase II introduces revenue: recruiter premium for direct athlete messaging, athlete premium for visibility boosts, host fees, sponsored games, and targeted ads. LinkedIn proved this model at $15B revenue with 65% from talent solutions.

Neo-brutalist aesthetic — warm off-white canvas with structured borders, zero border radius on primary components, square avatars and cards. Terracotta/rust brand accent. Color is reserved for semantic states. System fonts only. Shadow press animations for tactile feedback. Full dark mode support. Mobile-first, built for athletes on the go.
